Few weekends back, I ventured out of my comfort zone for lunch, thanks to my foodie partner-in-crime, Feyy. Usually, I stick to eating alone within a close radius of home—no way would I drive 30 minutes just to eat solo! But this time, I had great company and a new spot to explore: Warung Hutan in Bangi.
Feyy found this place on TikTok (of course—where else?), and we decided to give it a shot. It was a sunny weekend when we embarked on our little food adventure, curious about whether this place would live up to the hype.
What We Ordered
We opted for their set meal for two, which included:
Siakap Bakar
Daging Harimau Menangis
Kerang Bakar
The usual nasi, telur dadar, and drinks.
I can’t remember the exact price of the set, but honestly, it was worth the experience. The food was delicious, and the service was impressively quick. We waited less than 10 minutes before our table was filled with piping-hot dishes.
The Food
The standout for me? Definitely the Siakap Bakar—grilled to perfection with just the right amount of seasoning. The Daging Harimau Menangis was tender and flavorful, while the Kerang Bakar added a nice seafood twist to the meal. The sides were your typical staples, but they paired well with the dishes.
The Ambience
As for the ambience? Let’s just say it’s not the kind of place you’d write home about. It’s a simple warung setup, but what makes it interesting is the variety of traditional kuih and snacks they also sell. Perfect if you want to grab something sweet for later!
Would I Go Again?
Here’s the thing: while I enjoyed the food and appreciated the quick service, I probably wouldn’t drive all the way back just for another meal. It’s not that the food was bad—in fact, it was really good—but there are similar places much closer to home.
That said, if you’re in the Bangi area or just looking for a new spot to try, I’d recommend giving Warung Hutan a chance. It’s a solid experience, and you’re unlikely to be disappointed. Just don’t come for me if your visit doesn’t quite match up to mine, okay? 😅
