I finally got around to watching Another Simple Favor, and honestly? I wish I could say I was pleasantly surprised — but I wasn’t.

The first A Simple Favor worked because it was twisty in a fun, stylish way. It knew exactly when to be ridiculous and when to pull back. So when the sequel was announced, I was genuinely curious. Mainly because of one big question: Emily was sentenced to 20 years in prison — so how on earth is she out after only five?

And here’s where the movie immediately starts losing me.

Apparently, Emily’s new fling, Dante, saw her on the news and decided to hire the best lawyers money can buy to get her out. Okay… sure. Convenient, but fine. Then suddenly we’re introduced to an estranged aunt who wants to take over Dante’s Italian mob family. Alright… that escalated quickly. And just when you think the movie can’t possibly throw in anything more — surprise! Emily has another twin sister. Actually no — she’s part of a triplet situation now.

At this point, I genuinely asked myself: girl, where is this movie going?

Instead of building on the clever mystery of the first film, the sequel feels like it’s desperately stacking plot twists on top of each other just to justify its own existence. Nothing feels earned. It’s as if the writers sat in a room and said, “What if we just… add more chaos?” without ever stopping to ask whether any of it made sense.

The ending didn’t help either. It felt rushed, oddly lazy, and emotionally flat — especially for a franchise that once thrived on tension and intrigue. Rather than feeling shocked or satisfied, I was left feeling indifferent. And that’s probably the worst thing a thriller can do.

Honestly, this sequel made me appreciate the first movie even more — and also made me wish they had just left it alone. Not every story needs a continuation, and Another Simple Favor is a perfect example of that.

I’m giving this movie a 2/10, and let’s be real — those two points are solely because Capri looked stunning.

Rating: ⭐⭐☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆ (2/10)

Watched on: Amazon Prime Video

(And yes, that was the right call — this did not need a theatrical release.)
