The Fear Street universe is back — and as someone who enjoyed the previous trilogy on Netflix, I was definitely looking forward to this one. Prom Queen had potential. The title alone already screams high school horror, and it felt like a perfect setup for a gory, nostalgic slasher.

But after watching it, I’ve got to say… it’s giving very typical. The story is predictable, filled with clichés we’ve seen countless times before — the mysterious killer, the popular girls, the suspicious love interest, the countdown to prom. It’s all there. To be fair, the source material this was based on came from a time when these tropes were the blueprint, so maybe it felt fresher in its original context. But in 2025, it just doesn’t hit as hard.

Still, I’ve got to give credit where it’s due. The cast? Surprisingly solid. The movie gives Scream energy with how it plays with audience expectations — bringing in well-known actresses only to eliminate them early on. I totally thought some of these girls were gonna be our final girls, and I love that the movie subverted that.

The kills were gory enough to satisfy horror fans, though let’s be real — nothing will ever top the infamous bread slicer moment from the original trilogy. It tries, but that scene still reigns supreme.

All in all, Prom Queen isn’t groundbreaking. It’s your standard slasher with a pretty face. But if you’re just looking to unwind with something bloody and don’t feel like committing to a whole series, this is a decent Netflix pick. I'm giving it a 5/10 — good for a one-time watch, but not quite crown-worthy.
