Going into Panggilan Dari Kubur, I was actually pretty optimistic. First of all, Nirina Zubir. She’s someone I’ve always associated with strong drama and comedy performances, and honestly, that’s usually a good sign for a horror movie. Actors who understand emotional depth tend to do well in horror because let’s be real — horror relies heavily on fear, grief, panic, and vulnerability. And to be fair, Nirina did deliver her part as Alya, as did most of the cast.

But here’s the problem: the movie itself didn’t deliver.

The opening had me hooked. The ghost appears within the first five minutes, and I remember thinking, “Okay, we’re not wasting time — let’s go.” That early reveal felt bold and promising, like the movie was confident enough to jump straight into the horror. Unfortunately, after that strong start… nothing much happened.

And when I say nothing, I mean nothing. The ghost practically disappeared for what felt like a solid 45 minutes. Sure, I might be exaggerating slightly, but the pacing was so sluggish that it genuinely felt that long. The tension didn’t build, the scares didn’t escalate, and the story just kind of hovered without going anywhere meaningful.

By the time the movie reached its final 30 minutes — where things should’ve peaked — it still felt underwhelming. The payoff simply wasn’t worth the wait. The premise itself was also too weak to justify all the supernatural chaos happening on screen. It felt like the movie wanted to say something deep or unsettling, but never fully figured out what that was.

It’s frustrating because the ingredients were all there: a capable lead actress, a solid cast, and a concept that could have worked. But instead, the movie felt like a missed call that kept ringing without anyone actually saying anything important.

So yeah — thank God this was a streaming watch. I would’ve been pretty annoyed if I paid cinema money for this.

I’m giving Panggilan Dari Kubur a 3/10.

This is one “panggilan” I really wish I didn’t answer.
