Let’s address the elephant in the room: Disney’s Snow White (2025) is yet another live-action remake. But is it any better than the animated version? Honestly, it’s not. While most of Disney’s live-action remakes incorporate musical elements, this one leans too heavily into musical theatre. The songs are noticeably longer than expected, unlike Wicked, which strikes a nice balance between music and storytelling.
Storyline Overview
The story stays true to the original material with only a few minor changes, none of which contribute meaningfully to retelling this classic fairy tale for a new audience. Unfortunately, these changes don’t add much depth or originality. Also, let’s talk about the CGI—it’s painfully obvious. There was a time when CGI looked incredibly realistic, like in Pirates of the Caribbean, but here, it looks overly artificial and distracting.
Character Highlights
Rachel Zegler delivers a solid vocal performance for the musical numbers, but she lacks the poise and demureness that defined the animated Snow White. While she does a decent job, Gal Gadot’s Evil Queen is a huge letdown.
Villain Analysis
Disney has given us some amazing villains—Maleficent, Lady Tremaine, and Cruella De Vil, to name a few. The Evil Queen is one of the most iconic Disney villains, but Gal Gadot’s portrayal feels flat and uninspired. She comes across as just another bitter, power-hungry woman with no real depth or motivation beyond narcissism. There’s no real menace or intrigue to her character, which makes her forgettable compared to her animated counterpart.
Emotional & Thematic Depth
The film fails to capture the magic of the original. The Seven Dwarves are just... there. They don’t add much to the story, and their presence doesn’t bring the charm that the animated version did. The overall experience feels hollow, lacking the warmth and wonder of its predecessor.
Final Thoughts
Snow White (2025) is a disappointing addition to Disney’s lineup of live-action remakes. It lacks the enchantment, compelling characters, and storytelling finesse that made the original a timeless classic. For me, this is a definite miss.
Rating: 3/10
This might just be the worst entry in Disney’s live-action remake collection so far.
