Okay, first things first, let me just say this upfront: I’m not a comic book nerd. I don’t follow the lore beyond what’s presented on-screen, and my opinions are purely based on the movies themselves. So when I say I enjoyed this Superman, I mean I enjoyed this movie, not how comic-accurate it was or wasn’t.

Now let’s talk about it. I know there’s been a lot of back-and-forth when it comes to Superman films. Man of Steel and Batman v Superman were too dark, apparently. And now James Gunn’s take is too light or "childish"? Personally, I found this one to be a refreshing blend of action, hope, and heart with a dash of chaos.

I will admit, yes, the plot was a bit all over the place. There’s a lot going on, too many characters, too many threads trying to weave together. But hey, it’s an introduction to a new universe. It’s like Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 1, a little messy, but bursting with potential. And since it’s James Gunn, I do have faith that he knows how to build this world up movie by movie.

Now, let’s address the elephant in the room: the political undertone. A U.S.-backed nation invading another sovereign land for their own gain? And then splitting the territory with an American billionaire? I mean… it doesn’t take a genius to catch the real-world parallels here. I can understand why some people may be uncomfortable with that, but let’s not pretend superhero movies haven’t always flirted with politics.

Tone-wise, the humor was a mixed bag. Some jokes landed, others felt a bit forced. But what I did love was how each character still had their moment. Hawkgirl? Screeching mid-air while slicing through enemies? Iconic. I also wanted more from the Justice Gang helping Jarhanpur fight back. That segment felt a little too rushed, and I hope future movies expand on that conflict.

Also, Krypto? Instant fan favorite. And that ending scene with Supergirl drunkenly flying in to pick up the dog? Honestly, peak comedy and the perfect setup for what's next. I’m officially ready for Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow.

And of course, the cameos. Not the MCU-style gasp-worthy ones, but enough to make fans go “Ohhh I see what you did there.” Nice touch.

In conclusion, I’m giving this movie a solid 8/10. It’s not perfect, but it’s exactly the kind of hopeful, emotional, politically bold Superman film that I didn’t know I needed. And with James Gunn at the helm? I’m excited for what’s next. Also, this movie dropped on my birthday (10th July) so yes, it’s already special to me. Happy birthday to me, and cheers to a new chapter for the DCEU.
