Fresh from the twisted mind of Zach Cregger comes Weapons, a 2025 mystery horror film that hits hard, messes with your head, and leaves you with more questions than answers. Starring an ensemble cast led by Josh Brolin, Julia Garner, and Alden Ehrenreich, this film is already being hailed by some as one of the best horror films of the year. But is it?

Let me just start by saying: WTF. This film is rated 16+ in Malaysia, but it is gory AF! I genuinely didn’t expect it to be this brutal. Thankfully, the gore is well-paced, not thrown in your face every five minutes, but scattered enough throughout the movie to keep your stomach slightly twisted.

The pacing is just right, not too fast or too slow, and what I appreciated the most was how every character got their moment. The story revolves around a terrifying mystery: 17 kids from the same classroom wake up in the middle of the night and run away from their homes toward an unknown destination. All of them disappear without a trace. And from that point on, the plot unfolds in ways I honestly did not see coming.

The less you know going in, the better. This is one of those films you really need to go in blind, trust me. What I can tell you is that it blends horror with just the right touch of comedy. There were moments where I thought, “Wait, is this turning into a horror comedy?” And that’s not a bad thing. The jump scares were moderate and done tastefully, no tacky nonsense, just clean, effective horror.

But here’s the thing, by the time the credits rolled, I was still sitting there thinking, “What just happened?” That might be my only gripe. I still don’t have the answers. Is there a sequel planned? Is it one of those movies that’s supposed to keep you guessing? Either way, the mystery remains thick.

Despite the confusion, I still had a great time. Weapons may not be groundbreaking, but it’s effective and wildly entertaining. Is it the best horror movie of 2025? I’m not sure. But is it in my top 5 so far? Absolutely.

I’m giving this one a solid 9/10, purely for the stellar cast who truly brought this twisted story to life. Every performance elevated the film and made it a hell of a ride.
