This week I decided to catch up on two recent horror releases: Dasim and Angkara Murka. Both had interesting premises on paper, but unfortunately, the execution left much to be desired.

Starting with Dasim, the movie follows Salma and Arman, a young married couple whose once-happy life starts to crumble when Salma begins to experience a series of terrifying mystical disturbances. Sounds familiar? Yeah, that’s because it is. The entire movie feels like something we’ve all seen a hundred times before. From the predictable jump scares to the recycled haunted-house formula, Dasim offers nothing new to the horror scene. Even the so-called cliffhanger ending didn’t add any intrigue. If anything, it just made the whole story feel unfinished.

I’m giving Dasim a 3/10 — watchable, but painfully generic.

Now moving on to Angkara Murka, and honestly, I don’t even know where to begin. Much like Labinak, this movie tries to juggle too many storylines at once, greed, betrayal, family struggles, and mythical creatures but ends up delivering none of them effectively. I kept waiting for the story to find its footing, but that moment never came. The movie jumps from one thread to another without any clear direction, and by the end, I was left wondering what the point of it all was.

It’s disappointing because the concept had potential, but it just turned into a chaotic mess. The only redeeming thing here is the effort from the cast, they showed up and tried to make it work.

So yeah, Angkara Murka gets a 1/10 from me. One point for the actors who at least clocked in to work.

Both movies are examples of horror done without heart, no depth, no new ideas, and no lasting impact.
