Saturday Style: #METRaya2027
#METRaya2027 Prep: Starting Fresh for Year 11 (And Resurrecting Old Designs!)
Can you believe we are already just 5 months away from Hari Raya? That means we have officially stepped into #METRaya2027 prep season and if I’m being totally honest, I haven't even properly started planning my fits yet!
Last year marked my 10-year milestone of designing and making my own Baju Raya (shoutout to #METRayaTurns10!). But instead of going all out with a grand, extravagant production, I chose to take a well-deserved breather. I stepped back, rested, and simply reused wearable pieces from my existing closet.
Now that we’re entering Year 11, I’m treating this as a total fresh start and I want to do something bigger, bolder, and true to my creative DNA.
Moving Beyond Patterns: Focusing on Cutting and Design
In previous years, a lot of my Raya creations were me experimenting heavily with different fabrics and patterns. But for #METRaya2027, my focus is shifting entirely to silhouette, structural design, and intricate cutting.
Here is where my mind is at for the collection so far:
The Cute Sketch: I currently have 1 brand new Baju Raya sketch completed! It looks super cute on paper, but I’m honestly a little nervous about whether I can execute the technical tailoring and structure properly.
The Unfinished Vision: I also have a design from 2 years ago that I never got to materialize or bring to life. I think this is the universe telling me it’s finally time to pull that sketch out of the vault and work on it!
The 3-Look Goal: As always, my traditional game plan is to craft 3 distinct looks for the Raya season.
What About the Theme?
Every year, having a central concept ties all 3 fits together. I already have a theme in mind for this year's lineup, but I’m keeping it under wraps for just a little bit longer! Once I finish all 3 sketches, I’ll drop a dedicated post revealing the full mood board and concept.
Designing your own garments from scratch is equal parts thrilling and chaotic, but stepping back last year gave me the exact creative reset I needed to go all-in this time around.
