The Grand Widow Hotel was renowned for its luxury and discretion, an opulent retreat for the wealthy. Nestled in the mountains, it offered stunning views, lavish service, and a dark, lingering past no one dared to speak of. Jake and Emily, a young couple seeking an escape from city life, had heard only rumors about the strange occurrences at the hotel. The eerie stories didn’t faze them. They were more intrigued by the grandeur of the place.
From the moment they arrived, something felt off. The staff's overly rehearsed smiles, the quiet that hung too thickly in the air, and the heavy, ornate mirror in their suite all added to the strange atmosphere. But nothing prepared them for what came that night.
It started with the scratching. Emily woke up, the sound faint but unmistakable, coming from the mirror. She shook Jake awake, and together they watched in horror as a dark, skeletal hand pressed against the inside of the glass, slowly dragging down as if trying to break through. Before they could react, the lights in the room flickered and went out, plunging them into darkness.
Suddenly, a force yanked Jake out of bed, dragging him toward the mirror. He thrashed, kicking and screaming, but the ghostly figure emerging from the glass had him in its grip. It was a woman, or what was left of one—her hollow eyes and torn dress gave her the appearance of something long forgotten, rotting behind the reflective surface. Emily lunged forward, grabbing his arms, pulling with everything she had.
Desperate, Emily screamed for help, but the hotel was dead silent.
With one final tug, Emily managed to free Jake from the entity's grasp. The ghost let out a piercing wail before vanishing back into the mirror, leaving the couple trembling on the floor.
Panting and drenched in cold sweat, they grabbed their things, not even bothering to pack. As they reached the lobby, the night manager was waiting for them, his calm demeanor unchanged. “Leaving so soon?” he asked, his voice unnervingly pleasant.
Emily stared at him, her heart pounding. “We’re not staying another minute in this place!”
The manager simply nodded. “Very well. But remember, once you’ve checked in at the Grand Widow… it’s hard to truly leave.”
Ignoring him, they bolted out of the hotel, the grand doors slamming shut behind them as they fled into the night.
Months later, Jake and Emily tried to forget their stay at the Grand Widow. But one evening, as they settled into their new apartment, Emily noticed something chilling. There, leaning against the wall in their hallway, was a large, ornate mirror. The same mirror from their hotel room.
Her blood ran cold as a faint scratching sound echoed from the glass.
The End?
