Throwback Thursday: Gubah Bunga

Kalau nak cerita tahap keaktifan zaman sekolah dulu, I would say that I'm 50/50. Because most of the time, I akan join co-curricular activities yang I think I can do or yang I minat. Sebab tu lah bila tengok sijil-sijil aktiviti co-curriculum that I've kumpul zaman sekolah dulu, it was a mix of everything. Ada pesta pantun, bahas, choral speaking, group singing, bola tampar, spelling bee, cak lempong, tarian kebudayaan, merentas desa to name a few. Tapi dalam banyak-banyak aktiviti yang I've represented my school, there's one yang I can't brain sampai lah sekarang. Sumpah tak tau dari mana warden asrama boleh terfikir to let me wakil sekolah untuk pertandingan 'Gubahan Bunga". Yes Gubahan Bunga! I wakil sekolah for 2 years in a row untuk pertandingan Gubahan Bunga. Why was this even a thing back in the days pun I'm not sure. I would understand kalau Sekolah Teknik Ekonomi Rumah Tangga yang participated and organized benda-benda macam ni. But I guess they just want to make things interesting kot at the time. So wujudlah pertandingan Gubahan Bunga. Back to my question, why me? I guess the most obvious answer is at the time, I'm already close with Cikgu Faridah and she was the warden dekat asrama kitorang. Cikgu Faridah is the most active teacher in the school, she was resposible untuk semua aktiviti co-curriculum yang melibatkan benda-benda seni and kreatif ni. She was the one yang discovered I can play Cak Lempong, she was also responsible to make me the main dancer untuk team tarian kebudayaan sekolah, she was the yang trained me to play the flute sebab dia nak masukkan I dalam orkestra Negeri Sembilan (dropped out because she got transferred) and somehow, to her, I'm also the right person untuk wakil sekolah for the pertandingan Gubahan Bunga. Which I know nothing about. Fast forward to the competition day, I thought I was giving uniqueness but then I saw all the other schools punya gubahan, and I was like "I want out" because what do you mean that I thought using watermelon as the base untuk gubahan bunga was unique? It was a mess, but hey, at least I had fun laughing at myself during the judging. I forgot what one of the judges asked me, but I remembered we had a great laugh after answering the question. Looking back, one thing I missed the most about being in school was having someone who believed in me and thought I could accomplish things. Which also made me believe that I can do things too. I wish I were that self again today. Not afraid to try and just take it as an experience that I can look back and say "not for me". Also, I want to take this time to say thank you to Cikgu Faridah, wherever you are! Thank you so much for having so much faith in me and believing in me when no one else did. Thank you for seeing the potential in me!
