Throwback Thursday: How FnF Came To Be?

Back in late 2009, I received an offer to further my studies at UiTM Merbok, Sungai Petani, Kedah. It was far from home, but after 17 years of living under the same roof, I was more than ready for a change of scenery. I pursued a Diploma in Public Administration, not exactly my cup of tea. Politics, laws, and all those subjects felt like a snooze fest, and honestly, my CGPA proved it. But despite the less-than-exciting academic side, my diploma years were some of the best years of my life.

And that’s all thanks to my amazing group of friends, who eventually became known as FnF (formerly known as PPP, but let’s not get into that name again). The name FnF wasn’t something we sat down to plan; it just came about spontaneously as the four of us, me, Maria, Sofea, and Rita (not their real names) grew closer.

Like any strong bond, ours wasn’t free from drama. In fact, I’d say the small conflicts and silly dramas we had back then made the friendship stronger. Inside FnF, we embraced these larger-than-life personas that reflected who we really were when together a little chaotic, always amused, and each bringing different perspectives to the table. Outside the group, though, we went back to being our usual selves.

Now, 15 years later, our bond is still going strong. I’m not surprised, because we’ve always allowed each other to just be ourselves. Sure, we poked fun at one another, but it was always done with love and understanding. That’s what made this friendship special, it was real.

I love these girls dearly, and as we’ve always said, “Let’s stay friends until we’re 90.” Why 90? Because 100 is just too much! FnF will always hold a special place in my heart, and I really miss my girls.
