Throwback Thursday: My First GV Concert

Gegar Vaganza Minggu 2

Ever since Gegar Vaganza first aired 11 years ago, I’ve been hooked. The show has always been a staple for fans of 90s and 2000s music like me. Every year, I’d promise myself, This is the year I’ll attend a live concert. But somehow, I never figured out how to make it happen—until now.

Fast forward to 2024. While on a staycation with my high school friends, I casually (and jokingly) asked my friend Fizi if he could hook me up with tickets. Fizi works for Astro, though in a completely different department, so I wasn’t expecting much. To my surprise, he simply said, “Yeah, sure.” Just like that, he got me a pair of tickets, and voila—I was finally attending Week 2 of Gegar Vaganza 11!

2 rows behind the judges? What?

A VVIP Surprise

At first, Feyy and I were seated on the top deck, which was already exciting because we were finally there. But then, out of nowhere, one of the crew members approached us and asked if we’d like to move. Before we knew it, we were being escorted to the ground floor, just two rows behind the judges. Two rows behind the judges! I felt like a total VVIP sitting there—it was surreal. The view, the atmosphere, everything just felt elevated (pun intended).

The Line-Up That Stole the Show

This year’s line-up was spectacular, featuring many familiar faces and nostalgic tunes. Among the contestants, my personal favorites were Illa Sabry and Sheila Abdul. Illa Sabry’s performance of her evergreen hit Keranamu Kekasih was absolutely mesmerizing. Hearing it live brought back so many memories. And then there was Sheila Abdul—a one-hit wonder with an undeniably great voice. It was such a treat to see her on stage, reminding us of why we fell in love with her music in the first place.

Why Gegar Vaganza Hits Different

What I truly love about Gegar Vaganza is how it gives a second chance to talented singers who once dominated the charts but have since gone under the radar. For someone like me who lives for the music of the 90s and 2000s, this show is pure magic. There’s something so special about singing along to these songs with the crowd—it’s nostalgic, heartwarming, and incredibly fun.

More Concerts, Please!

Attending my first Gegar Vaganza concert was everything I hoped it would be and more. The energy of the crowd, the live performances, and the sheer nostalgia made it an unforgettable experience. Here’s hoping it won’t be my last! Fizi, if you’re reading this—be prepared for more ticket requests!
