Can We Make Smartphones Fun Again? (Why I’m Obsessed with the Oppo Reno 16)
Remember when buying a new phone was an absolute event?
Back in the day, Nokia was dropping the most outlandish, eccentric phone designs imaginable, and we were all completely here for it. You had slide-out QWERTY keyboards, swiveling bodies, and wild form factors that made every device unique. You could instantly tell what phone someone was holding from across the room.
Fast forward to today, and let’s be honest: every smartphone is pretty much a identical glass-and-aluminum slab.
When foldables first hit the market, I jumped on the train not because I was some ultra-demanding power user who needed three apps open at once, but simply because I wanted tech to feel fun again. Foldables were the closest thing we had to innovation, but the landscape quickly fell back into a routine.
Until I got my hands on the Oppo Reno 16 and its wildly creative accessory ecosystem.

Giving this cute little keychain a few basic smart features would instantly transform it from a novelty into a genuinely indispensable daily driver tool.
The Dream Throwback: Bring Back Physical Keypads!
Playing with these accessories got me thinking about the golden era of mobile design again. Can we please bring back physical keypads but powered by modern Android OS?
Imagine taking the iconic body of the Nokia N97 with its angled tilt screen and full landscape QWERTY keyboard, or the swiveling, speaker-heavy frame of the Sony Ericsson W550i Walkman phone, and equipping them with modern specs, flagship cameras, and seamless app support.
That combination sounds ridiculously dope. Tech companies don't always need to chase thinner bezels and invisible camera cutouts. Sometimes, taking a risk on playful hardware and tactile physical buttons is exactly what the industry needs to break the boredom.
Tech Should Definitely Be Fun Again!
Is the Oppo Reno 16 with the Oppo Bubble going to replace every flagship on the market? Probably not. But it’s a refreshing step in a direction tech has ignored for way too long: making everyday devices playful.
