Fashion Tuesday: Nabil Volkers

Our local fashion scene is getting better and I can say that with the emergence of new designers, we can see a promising future for our fashion industry. Taking inspiration is what we say but taking it literally is what we do. Most of our local designers nowadays are not really a designer but a tailor instead because most of their designs are not original and they just replicate other designers' work (mostly unknown foreign designers). But what how unique can fashion really be? A clothe is still a clothe and a pair of pants is still a pair of pants. You can't really run far from how it is supposed to look like right?

Anyways, today I'm going to talk about one of my favorite local designer. Nabil Volkers! I really like his designs because I don't really see much of what he did in Malaysia. If we look for street style in other countries, we might find something similar. I mean if there are other local brand that have the same aesthetic, that's cool. Though his designs are too bold for Malaysian but he did manage to imprint his essence into his design which when people look at it, they will know it's his.

So one his most controversial collection was last's year Lucified collection where he turn himself into a devil like creature and put it on his design. It's not only a controversial collection because of the devil/Lucifer thing but also it has been pointed out as being similar looking to previous collection by a another international designer. You can look it up if you have time.

Now let's talk about this year's collection where Nabil go for the bubblegum aesthetic. To me the designs were okay, it look clean and I would totally wear it but it look a bit generic for Nabil especially after his daring collection last year. Anywho, I'm digging all his work and yeah who knows we might be working with each other one day because he has something that I'm into but not bold enough to create.

P/S: Who is your favorite local designer?
