Chagee is back with another cute collaboration, this time teaming up with Hello Kitty — and of course, I was intrigued. You already know I’m a huge tea person, so when they introduced a new limited-time flavour called Cocoa Oolong Milk Tea, I had to give it a try.
Going into it, I honestly thought this would be something completely new to my taste buds. Cocoa and oolong? Sounds fancy, sounds interesting, sounds like something I’d enjoy. And while I did enjoy it, the flavour profile wasn’t exactly what I expected.
Taste-wise, the first thing that hit me was the smokiness. It immediately reminded me of Hojicha — that roasted, earthy, slightly nutty depth that feels warm and comforting. If you’re familiar with Hojicha, you’ll know exactly what I mean. As for the cocoa? I didn’t really taste it at all. No chocolatey notes, no cocoa bitterness, nothing that screamed “yes, this is cocoa.”
But here’s the thing — just because I didn’t taste the cocoa doesn’t mean the tea wasn’t good. The tea itself was actually really nice. Smooth, aromatic, and very comforting. If you enjoy smoky teas, this is definitely up your alley. I think the word “cocoa” just set a certain expectation in my head that wasn’t met.
Would I be upset if this stayed as a limited-time flavour? Not really. If I ever miss that smoky tea profile, I can always go back to my beloved Hojicha. Still, I genuinely enjoyed this drink and I’m glad I tried it.
That said… let’s talk about the heartbreak. I was too late to the party. No Hello Kitty merch. Not even the special cup. Everything was gone by the time I got mine, which honestly hurt a little more than the missing cocoa flavour. But oh well — you win some, you lose some.
Overall? Cute collab, lovely tea, slightly misleading name — but still a win for tea lovers.
Have you guys tried the Cocoa Oolong Milk Tea yet? Did you taste the cocoa or am I just imagining things?
