McDonald’s Grimace Shake & Purple Cloud Deluxe Sundae Review: Is the Viral Purple Menu Worth the Hype?
The internet’s favorite purple monster has officially landed at McDonald's! Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you probably remember the absolute chaos that flooded TikTok and Instagram back when the Grimace Shake first launched in the US, spawning that hilarious viral horror trend where people pretended to pass out after taking a sip.
Well, the hype has finally reached us, and McD dropped a whole purple limited-time lineup including the iconic Grimace Shake and the stunning Purple Cloud Deluxe Sundae.
Naturally, I had to grab both to see if these viral treats live up to the internet frenzy!
1. Purple Cloud Deluxe Sundae: A Visual Masterpiece (But Very Sweet!)
Let’s start with the Purple Cloud Deluxe Sundae. I’m just going to say it: this is easily one of the most beautiful sundaes McDonald’s has ever created. It’s practically made for Instagram!
Here’s what’s packed inside this purple beauty:
A rich, vibrant grape sauce swirled into classic vanilla soft serve.
Crunchy grape-flavored cereal bits for a fun texture contrast.
A fluffy cloud of purple cotton candy perched right on top.
Visually, it’s a 10/10. Flavor-wise, it’s super delicious, but wah, it is definitely a sweet tooth test! When you combine sweet grape sauce, sugary cereal, AND cotton candy in one cup, the sugar rush hits pretty hard. If you love super sweet desserts, you'll adore this, but for me, it was just a little too sweet to finish comfortably in one sitting.
2. The Viral Grimace Shake: Grape Taffy Perfection 🥤
Now for the main event: the Grimace Shake.
For a quick bit of McD lore, Grimace was originally introduced back in 1971 as a scaly, four-armed villain named "Evil Grimace" who stole milkshakes! Over time, McD soft-launched him into a friendly, fluffy purple taste bud/berry character who just loves hanging out with Ronald McDonald.
And honestly? I love this shake so much!
Unlike the sundae, the Grimace Shake hits the absolute sweet spot. It tastes just like grape taffy or grape candy, creamy, smooth, and surprisingly not overly sweet at all. The flavor balance is done so right that I genuinely couldn't get enough of it. I am seriously praying that McDonald's decides to make this a permanent menu staple instead of letting it disappear!
