KFC’s Golden Floss for CNY – Chicken on Chicken, But Make It Extra

Every Chinese New Year season, fast food chains come out to play. If McDonald's has its annual Prosperity Burger and Texas Chicken brought us the Lunar Fortune Chicken this year, then KFC decided to serve something called the Golden Floss.

And here’s what I think.

Salted Egg Vibes, But With Chicken Floss

Taste-wise, it’s very familiar. It tastes just like salted egg — rich, savoury, slightly creamy — but this time they added chicken floss into the mix. Chicken on chicken? That’s automatically a win in my book.

But here’s the thing: I actually enjoyed the Mantou Golden Floss Burger more than the fried chicken version.

Why? Because the execution just made more sense.

With the fried chicken, you have to dip the chicken into the special mayo… then dip it again into the chicken floss. That’s a lot of steps for something that’s supposed to be simple fast food. Too much coordination for a quick meal, if you ask me.

The mantou burger, on the other hand? Everything was assembled nicely. The soft mantou bun, the crispy chicken, the floss, the sauce — all working together in one bite. No extra dipping ceremony required. The flavours stuck together properly, and it just felt more balanced.

Is It Groundbreaking?

Not really.

It’s good, it’s enjoyable, but it’s not revolutionary. That said, I do prefer this over the Lunar Fortune Chicken from Texas Chicken. For me, the real highlight is definitely the mantou burger — and honestly, I wouldn’t mind having that for berbuka today.

So if you’re planning to try KFC’s CNY menu, go for the mantou. Trust me on this one.

And before I end this —

Selamat berpuasa to all my Muslim readers, and Happy Chinese New Year to my Chinese readers 🧧✨
