Foodgasm: Mushoom Season at McDonald's

McDonald’s is back with another seasonal menu, and this time it’s all about the Mushroom Sauce Season. You’ll see the sauce featured in almost everything: Mushroom Double Beef Burger, Mushroom Chicken Burger, Fried Chicken, and even Chicken Tenders with mushroom sauce on the side.

Now, don’t get me wrong, the mushroom sauce itself is actually good. Creamy, savoury, and rich with that earthy mushroom flavour. But here’s where I feel McDonald’s missed the mark: the pairings.

The Sauce vs The Menu

I tried the Mushroom Double Beef Burger and it was… okay. Decent, but the portion felt a little small for something that’s supposed to be hearty. Then there’s the fried chicken with mushroom sauce. Dipping fried chicken into creamy mushroom gravy just feels a bit too complicated for fast food.

And if I’m being real, the best mushroom beef burger for me still belongs to Burger King. They’ve nailed that combo better than anyone else.

What McDonald’s Should Have Done

If you ask me, McDonald’s could’ve gone a totally different direction here. Instead of just dressing up their existing menu with mushroom sauce, they should’ve introduced something bold, like a Chicken Chop with Mushroom Sauce. Imagine it: crispy fried chicken chop, drenched in creamy mushroom gravy, maybe with some fries or vegetables on the side. Now that would’ve been a seasonal menu worth lining up for. It’s a no-brainer, and I think it would sell like, well, hot chicken chops.

Final Verdict

So, is the Mushroom Sauce Season good? Yeah, the sauce itself is tasty. But the overall execution doesn’t quite hit the spot. Sometimes it’s not just about having a good sauce, it’s about creating the right dish to let it shine.

What do you guys think? Have you tried McDonald’s Mushroom Sauce menu yet?
