My First Ever Halal Ramen Experience at Ramen Honolu, Lot 10 KL

As someone who usually sticks to sushi, teppanyaki, or a good ol’ chicken katsu, I’ve never actually tried proper ramen—until now. Thanks to Feyy (TikTok addict and foodie partner-in-crime), we stumbled upon Ramen Honolu, a Halal Japanese eatery tucked inside Lot 10 Shopping Mall in Kuala Lumpur. Naturally, we had to check it out—especially since finding Halal ramen in KL is like finding a rare Pokémon.

I was fasting that day (yes, living on the edge), and honestly, I was both excited and nervous. Imagine breaking your fast with something that ends up being disappointing… big risk. But spoiler alert: it was worth it.

Ambience & Ordering at Ramen Honolu Lot 10

The vibe? It’s what you’d expect from a cozy Japanese restaurant in KL—a little tight on space, but warm and casual. It did feel slightly packed, probably because the place isn’t very big, but it still gave off those legit ramen shop vibes.

What threw me off a little was the ordering process. You’ll be handed a main menu plus three different sheets—one for ramen, one for rice dishes, and one for drinks. I legit stared at the papers like I was doing a test. But don’t stress—if you’re unsure, just ask the staff. They were super helpful and friendly. Pro tip: go through the Ramen Honolu menu online beforehand if you want to plan ahead.

BBQ Beef Ramen – The Star of the Show

We didn’t have to wait long for the food, which was great because… well, buka puasa hunger hits hard. We both ordered the BBQ Beef Ramen, and I gotta say—this might be one of the best Halal Japanese food options in KL I’ve tried so far.

Looks small but mighty

Let’s talk about the taste: the ramen noodles were springy and had that perfect bite. The beef was tender, juicy, and had that smoky grilled flavour that really hit the spot. The broth was rich, but a little too salty for me. Then again, I hadn’t eaten anything salty for a while during Ramadan, so maybe it was just my taste buds adjusting. Feyy, on the other hand, thought it was just nice.

One thing I’d change? I’d definitely go for extra spicy next time. The mild spice level was already flavourful, so I can only imagine how good the spicy version would be.

Final Thoughts: Worth the Hype?

Definitely a yes. If you’re looking for Halal ramen in Bukit Bintang, Ramen Honolu at Lot 10 is a solid pick. I can’t speak for how “authentic” it is compared to ramen in Japan, but I can say that it was super satisfying and a great introduction to ramen for a first-timer like me.

Next on my must-try list from their menu: Beef Katsu. It looked so good in the photos and I’ll definitely be back to give it a go. Plus, if you’re obsessed with ramen after your meal, you can even buy their instant ramen version downstairs at Don Don Donki. Love a full-circle food moment!

If you’ve got any Halal ramen recommendations in KL or Malaysia, drop them in the comments—I need to expand my ramen world now. 🍜
