Foodgasm: Texas Chicken Lunar Fortune

Chinese New Year is just around the corner, and we all know what that means — fast food chains rolling out their festive, limited-time menus. If McDonald’s is famously known for its annual Prosperity Burger, other chains don’t always have a fixed CNY item, but they usually introduce something that fits the Lunar New Year theme.
A few days ago, I got the chance to try Texas Chicken’s Lunar Fortune Fried Chicken, and honestly? I kinda liked it.
Flavour-wise, it immediately reminded me of ayam goreng kicap, but with a spicy kick. And if you know me, you know I love my food spicy and salty, so this combination worked really well for my taste buds. The sauce was bold, savoury, and comforting in a very familiar way — something that feels festive without trying too hard.
They also introduced a Red Velvet Biscuit as part of the menu. It was… okay. Not bad, but not something I’d crave again. Personally, I still prefer Texas Chicken’s original honey butter biscuit — that buttery, slightly salty goodness is hard to beat and remains undefeated in my book.
So, will I order the Lunar Fortune Fried Chicken again? Probably not in the near future. But if it ever makes a comeback — like their Fiery Dragon series — I wouldn’t mind giving it another round.
Limited-time menus are always hit or miss, but this one? A decent festive twist that actually makes sense.
Have you tried it yet?
