RPDR 17: Episode 1 Rucap

Ladies and gentlemen, start your engines because RuPaul’s Drag Race Season 17 has kicked off, and let me tell you—this premiere episode is already shaping up to be one of the most fun and memorable premieres ever! From the queens' entrances to the fierce lip-sync showdown, the excitement is real. Let’s dive into the tea, starting with the gag of the episode: The Squirrel Game, a drag-tastic nod to Squid Game.

Having Victoria “Porkchop” Parker as Player 001? Genius. And then eliminating her first? Iconic. She’ll forever be the ultimate Porkchop Icon!

My Initial Top Four Picks

Before the episode aired, I had my eyes on Lexi Love, Jewels Sparkles, Sam Star, and Lana Ja’Rae as the queens to watch. And guess what? After their entrances, I am even more convinced that these queens will dominate the season. They’ve got the personality, the wit, and the charisma—everything a top-tier queen needs. I’m obsessed already!

But let’s not sleep on the rest of the cast. There are so many interesting queens this season, and dare I say, some of them are total cuties. Arrietty, Lydia, and Suzie, anyone? No wonder there was a lot of “excitement” when the queens de-dragged. This season is serving not just talent but eye candy, too!

Runway and Talent Show Highlights

The first runway's theme was "Masked for Masked Singer"—and if you know, you know! My top runway picks were:

Jewels Sparkles – Eleganza perfection!

Lucky Starzzz – Out-of-this-world creativity.

Arrietty – Quirky yet polished.

Lana Ja’Rae – She ate, left no crumbs, and still looked hungry!

For the talent show, the queens truly brought their A-game. My top two performances matched the queens’ consensus: Jewels Sparkles and Suzie absolutely slayed. Suzie especially stood out during the lip-sync, but more on that in a bit.

On the flip side, if Lana had rated Arrietty’s twirling act fairly (giving Coco Montrese All Stars 2 flashbacks), Arrietty might’ve landed in the bottom. Drama, anyone?

Katy Perry and The Lip Sync for the Win

This week’s guest judge, Katy Perry, didn’t leave much of an impression. Maybe it was the edit, but she seemed a bit muted. However, her song "Woman’s World" set the stage for an epic lip-sync battle between Jewels and Suzie.

At first, I thought Jewels had it in the bag, but then Suzie morse-coded her way into victory with her iconic 9-tapping toes. The judges were living for it, and honestly, so was I.

The Bottom Two Cliffhanger

Acacia landed in the bottom, and we’ll have to wait until next week to find out who joins her and who will be the first queen to sashay away. The suspense is real!

Final Thoughts

Season 17 is off to a roaring start, and I couldn’t be more excited! My top four—Lexi Love, Jewels Sparkles, Sam Star, and Lana Ja’Rae—remain unchanged. They’ve got what it takes to snatch the crown, and I’m rooting for them all the way.

What did you think of the premiere? Who are your early favorites, and do you think my top four will make it to the finale? Let’s get the conversation started in the comments! 💖
