This week’s episode brought us one of my all-time favorite challenges—the design challenge! The queens were tasked to create “Opulence” looks inspired by the colors of the Monopoly board, aptly dubbed Monopulence. Add in a dramatic “Rate a Queen” reveal and a jewel-stealing showdown, and this episode was packed with drama, creativity, and some chaotic energy.
Initial Favorites:
Coming into this week, my revised top picks were Arrietty, Jewels, Sam, and Lucky. For the most part, they delivered—but poor Lucky flopped hard. Her unique drag style got me hyped, but she struggled to translate that into the design challenge. Meanwhile, Arrietty, Jewels, and Sam definitely lived up to my expectations and solidified their spots as frontrunners.
Episode Highlight:
The claws were out this week! First, we had Ru stirring the pot by revealing the results of the “Rate a Queen” survey to the queens. Unsurprisingly, it caused some tension and led to a heated argument between Jewels and Onya over stolen stones. While Jewels had every right to be mad, calling Onya out just five minutes before the runway felt a bit messy.
And then there’s Lexi, who had no qualms about calling out Hormona Lisa for using her own stones in the challenge—a move that could’ve disqualified her. Some might call it snitching, but I see it as Lexi having everyone’s back. Let’s be real: if Ru or production caught Hormona, the fallout would’ve been much worse.
Runway Highlights: The Top 4 Looks
The Monopulence runway featured some stunning creations, but these four queens stole the show with their creativity and craftsmanship:
Arrietty: Arrietty’s sexy red gown, paired with voluminous puffer scarves, was a showstopper. Her look was completed with an intricate hairstyle adorned with red pieces that tied the overall ensemble together. She looked absolutely stunning and embodied opulence flawlessly.
Jewels Sparkles: Jewels presented a gorgeous ruched gown that accentuated her figure, complemented by a matching headpiece. The combination of cute and sexy made her look both playful and elegant, perfectly suited for the theme.
Sam Star: Sam’s look was incredibly clean and polished, with every detail exuding luxury. Her poised presentation elevated the outfit further, making her entire appearance feel undeniably opulent.
Crystal Envy: Crystal’s look was equally refined, featuring a sleek blue dress paired with a striking red wig and a headscarf. The contrast of colors and the simplicity of her styling made her look expensive and sophisticated.
Guest Judge & Lip Sync:
This week’s guest judge was Sandra Bernhard, known for her role in Pose. While her presence was fine, it didn’t leave a strong impression on me.
The lip-sync to Paula Abdul’s “The Way That You Love Me” was an intense showdown between Lucky and Joella. Lucky brought the energy and clearly outperformed Joella, but the latter somehow snatched the win. I guess it’s a “good for her” moment, though I’m still scratching my head over the result.
Drama:
The Badonka Dunk Tank twist is keeping things spicy this season. Unfortunately, Lucky didn’t pull the right lever, leaving Michelle Visage dry as ever. With that, Lucky sashayed away as the official Pork Chop of Season 17. It’s such a gag, especially considering how strong her promo and entrance looks were.
Final Thoughts
This episode brought the drama I’ve been craving, and I’m hoping it only intensifies from here. While I’m sad to see Lucky go, it’s clear this season will keep us guessing. My favorites—Arrietty, Jewels, and Sam—continue to shine, but I need even more from them to secure their top spots.

P/S: Congratulations The Virgo Queen for winning Canada's Drag Race Season 5.
