RPDR 17: Episode 5 Rucap

Okay, first of all—what is going on? The official first look for this episode mysteriously disappeared from YouTube, so I had to rely on the bottom two lip-sync video instead. But anyway, let’s get into it! This week, the queens were tasked with a comedy challenge: RDR Live, Drag Race’s version of SNL. Surprisingly, there was no drama over role selection, which was unexpected given the shade we've seen in previous episodes and Untucked. I was expecting some claws to come out, but nope—smooth sailing.

Going into the episode, my top picks for the win were Suzie and Onya. Both queens performed well in the last acting challenge, so it felt like one of them was bound to snatch this one.

Initial Favorites

As I mentioned, Suzie and Onya were my picks for this challenge, based on their previous performances. And honestly, I wasn’t wrong about Suzie—she delivered once again. Acacia also surprised me by absolutely eating her role. On the other end of the spectrum, Lydia and Kori struggled the most. However, I don’t agree with Arrietty being in the bottom two; I feel like her runway presentation should have helped keep her safe. If Nymphia’s runway saved her from the bottom in Snatch Game, why wasn’t the same rule applied here?

Cast Commentary

The queens seemed to get along surprisingly well this episode, at least when it came to role selection. I expected some tension, especially with the drama we’ve seen earlier in the season. But maybe they’re finally realizing that the real fight should be on the stage and not in the werkroom? Either way, it was an interesting shift in energy.

Runway Highlights

The runway theme this week was Tickled Pink, and my top four looks were:

Arrietty – She brought an elevated punk-alien fantasy to the stage, and I loved every bit of it.

Jewels Sparkles – Her polish and attention to detail never fail. Another stunning look from her.

Lydia B. Kollins – She really came out dressed like a male private part on national TV. The audacity! But honestly, it was a well-executed concept.

Lexi Love – There’s something about her style that reminds me of Miss Vanjie—bougie hood realness, and I’m living for it.

Winner & Bottom Two

The bottom two of the week were Arrietty and Lydia, and they had to lip-sync to Boogie Wonderland. And let me tell you—Lydia ATE. I was not expecting that level of performance from her, but she absolutely deserved to win. My jaw was on the floor!

Suzie snatched her second win of the season, making her the first queen to achieve this before anyone else. She’s officially a front-runner.

Drama

As expected, Arrietty was the one to sashay away… but hold up—this season’s Badonk-a-Dunk Tank Twist gave her one last shot to stay. She pulled the right lever, number 1, which meant she was safe! This also marked the end of the twist since both levers (1 and 7, representing Season 17) had now been used.

Final Thoughts

I’m still rooting for Lexi, Lana, Sam, and Jewels, and I hope they slay the next challenge—which is the Ball Challenge! I can’t wait to see the looks they bring to the runway!
