Fashion Sketches

This year, I had big dreams and even bigger fashion plans for Raya — the goal was to serve three lewks for the festive season. But life (and the heat) had other plans, so I only managed to complete two out of three. 😅

Still, I know some of y’all have been lowkey wondering what inspired my Raya outfits this year, and it’s finally time to reveal the fashion houses behind each look. Get ready, this year’s #METRaya2025 theme was definitely giving designer fantasy meets DIY realness.

Look 1: Bottega Veneta-Inspired (Supposed To Be My First Day Look)

Let’s talk about the one that got away... 😭

My initial plan was to wear this Bottega Veneta-inspired outfit for the first day of Raya. The idea was to recreate that iconic woven leather texture — but using fabric instead. It sounded simple in theory, but I totally underestimated how much labour goes into weaving strips of fabric into a full-blown garment.

Let’s just say… my fingers were not ready. So, this look didn’t make the final cut for Raya — but don't worry, I'm eyeing Raya Haji for a little revival moment.

Pray for me, please.

Look 2: Jean Paul Gaultier-Inspired (Second Day of Raya)

This is the one I actually wore! 🧡

Whenever I think about Jean Paul Gaultier, my mind instantly goes to that iconic sailor shirt — you know, the one with bold horizontal stripes? It’s basically JPG’s signature and even shows up on their perfume bottles. So, for this look, I went full nautical glam, mixing in traditional elements with a modern twist.

Look 3: Versace-Inspired Baroque Print (Planned Third Look)

This one is pretty straightforward — the inspiration? That legendary Versace baroque shirt.

I found fabric that looked almost identical to the OG print and had it tailored into a sleek Raya ensemble. Luxurious? Check. Over-the-top? Absolutely. I mean, if you’re gonna reference Versace, might as well go all out.

Baroque, but make it baju Raya 💛 A little bit of Versace glam for the festive season.

The Heat, The Exhaustion, and the Lack of Photos…

Now here’s the truth — my Raya mood was MIA this year. The drive back was so exhausting that by the time I reached the houses, I was already a melted version of myself. 🥵

The weather was giving "oven preheated to 180°C," and even with the air-cond blasting in the car, I was sweating like no one's business. So if you’re wondering why I didn’t post much this year — there’s your answer. I looked like a hot mess, and ain’t nobody taking pictures in that state.

So… How Was Your Raya?

Did you get to dress up? Did the heat melt your makeup too? 😩

Let me know how your celebration went — and keep your fingers crossed for that Bottega comeback for Raya Haji okay?

Till then, Selamat Hari Raya from me and my (half-served) looks! ✨
