Rebooting a series can go either good or bad. Especially if the series that you're rebooting has a cult following or had a huge success in the past. That's why I was a bit skeptical when they announced the Gossip Girl reboot. After watching the first episode, I understand why such a reboot is good because it brings the original premise into a new light.
The original Gossip Girl centered around a blogger who spills the tea about the elites in the Big Apple using a blog as a medium because social media wasn't as big back then. Now with all the technologies, social media platforms, and whatnot, we got to see how it is like handling rumors about you being spread with just a click of a button within seconds.
After watching the first episode, I feel like the new Gossip Girl seems pretty familiar. I mean it's not that stories about elite high schoolers are new and rare but the setup and casts remind me of another series about elite high schoolers on Netflix called 'Elite'. Are teenagers nowadays really that horny? Both series showcased this horny side of teenagers which I think is the reality but an unnessasary sex scene in a series is just too much for me. It seems like producers and series creators are selling sex scenes more than the story itself.
As of now, I'm only looking forward to the fashion in the new Gossip Girl. As far as the storyline, I don't really pay much attention. Because I think this reboot is solely made for a new set of audience and we who grew up watching the original Gossip Girl can take a step back and chill.
Anyways what do you guys think about the reboot?
P/S: I want to shave my head after seeing Julien.
