I’ve been a fan of Charli XCX for a long time now. I remember the first time I heard the Vroom Vroom EP—it was an instant click. It was that specific kind of music that makes you feel like the main character; the perfect background noise for when you just need to feel yourself.
Then she dropped Brat, which was nothing short of revolutionary. But if there’s one thing Charli understands better than anyone else, it’s how we consume art today. She knows the current generation lives on social media, where attention spans are short and the scroll is relentless. That’s why she keeps her tracks lean—most are under three minutes. She makes them short, punchy, and catchy enough to hook you instantly without ever getting boring.
Enter: "Rock Music."
Released on May 8th 2026, "Rock Music" is the perfect evolution of that strategy. Produced by A. G. Cook and Finn Keane, the track is a chaotic, 1-minute-and-55-second blast of hyperpop-rock. It’s not "rock" in the traditional sense; it’s a "glitch in the matrix" version of rock, filled with distorted guitars and that signature Charli grit.
Why I’m Obsessed?
"Rock Music" is that song. It was clearly built for a viral trend, but that doesn't mean it’s just "TikTok bait." It’s actually a great track. Since it dropped, I’ve had it on repeat every single day. It makes me feel a certain way—like I’m stuck in a digital glitch, just screaming "Rooooooooooooooooooock Music" at the top of my lungs.
It’s aggressive, it’s stylish, and it’s unapologetically loud. The New Era!
With this being the lead single for her seventh album, Charli is proving once again that she can "flip the form" whenever she wants. She’s moving away from the pure dance-floor energy of Brat and leaning into something grittier and more experimental.
What do you think of the track? Are you hyped for this new era, or do you miss the pure club vibes? Let me know in the comments!
