Today I want to talk about Lady Gaga’s 2026 Grammy performance, where she debuted the rock version of “Abracadabra” from Mayhem — and honestly? I’m still not over it.
“Abracadabra” was already that song in its original form. Then we got the Gesaffelstein remix, which went on to win a Grammy for Best Remix (as it should), and just when you think the era has given all it could… Gaga casually pulls up to the Grammys and says, “Here’s another version.” A rock version, no less.
Am I surprised? Not at all.
If there’s one thing Mother has proven time and time again, it’s that rock is in her DNA. This isn’t her first rodeo. We’ve seen her trade riffs with Metallica, scream her lungs out on live stages, and fully embody that raw, gritty energy whenever she wants. So her tapping into rock for “Abracadabra” feels less like a genre switch and more like a homecoming.
And honestly? If this is any indication of where LG8 might be heading sonically, I am more than ready.
The performance itself was surprisingly simple, yet still so cinematic — which is very Gaga-coded. No over-the-top distractions, no unnecessary gimmicks. Just presence, conviction, and that unmistakable voice cutting through the arrangement like a knife. It felt intentional. Controlled. Powerful.
I genuinely have no notes for this version. None. Zero. It’s been on repeat for over a week now, and every time it comes on, it still hits just as hard as the first listen.
Mother always delivers. And the Grammys? Once again reminded who they’re dealing with.
