Alright, let’s talk about Kesha’s latest single “Boy Crazy” from her upcoming album Period.
The second the song started, I did a double take. Because tell me I’m not crazy — but this sounds straight out of a K-pop girl group’s tracklist. The opening, especially, is giving Le Sserafim’s “Crazy” energy. It’s bubbly, erratic, and kind of all over the place — but that’s also kind of the charm?
And listen, we know Kesha has written for the K-pop world before, so maybe this is her full-circle moment. Honestly, it wouldn't surprise me if this track was initially pitched for a girl group and she decided to keep it.
Now here’s the tea: out of all the singles so far, “Joyride” is still sitting at #1 for me. And I’m not sure if that’s a good sign for the full album or not. Don’t get me wrong — Boy Crazy is fun in a chaotic way, but sonically it feels like a lesser echo of her Animal/Warrior days. It has that neon-glitter-drenched energy, but it doesn’t punch as hard.
Visually? Whew. Kesha made a choice for this era. I’m not sure if I love it, but I do appreciate her always going left when everyone else goes right. It’s bold. It’s loud. It’s not necessarily cohesive, but it’s unapologetically Kesha — and that’s always something I respect.
As for the song itself… do I like it? I honestly don’t know. Maybe? I feel like Boy Crazy is one of those songs you need to be in a very specific mood for. Like, maybe you’re alone in your room at 2AM, a little delirious, with no idea what's going on — that kind of vibe.
So over to you guys: What do you think about “Boy Crazy”? Is it a skip, a sleeper, or your new guilty pleasure? Let’s discuss.
