There’s just something about women who can spit bars that makes me go, “That’s a bad bitch right there.” And let’s be honest, most of the time, they truly are. Doechii? She’s no exception, and her new single “Denial is a River” has me hooked.
I first discovered Doechii through “Alter Ego,” and as soon as I heard it, I knew she was special. It was one of those songs that I could imagine myself lip-syncing to in the shower, pretending I’m headlining my own concert. Naturally, I dove into her discography and found “Nissan Altima.” That track? A certified banger. And now, she’s dropped “Denial is a River,” and I’m in love all over again.
This song doesn’t sound like anything I’ve heard on the mainstream. It’s this unique hybrid of spoken word, rap, and something else entirely that just works. It’s fun, it’s refreshing, and it’s exactly the kind of track that makes you want to hit repeat.
Oh, and let’s talk about that live performance with Issa Rae—genius! The vibe, the energy, the creativity—it was everything.
Needless to say, Doechii has earned a permanent spot in my Cunty playlist. Whenever I’m feeling a little extra, you’ll catch me blasting “Denial is a River” like the main character I was born to be.
Have you heard it yet? If not, what are you waiting for?
