This week, my song of the week is "July" by Hozier.
Well, the choice is pretty obvious. We’re welcoming the month of July, and as someone born on July, this month has always felt a little extra special to me. It feels like a personal reset button every year — a chance to reflect, recalibrate, and look ahead to what comes next.
But beyond the title, this song has been hitting me on a much deeper level lately.
For those unfamiliar, July is a song about longing, uncertainty, and finding beauty in moments that are fleeting. There’s a sense of searching throughout the song — searching for meaning, for connection, for something that feels permanent in a world that is constantly changing. Hozier has a way of wrapping profound emotions in poetic lyrics, and July is no exception.
And honestly? That resonates with where I am in life right now.
The past year has been a whirlwind of emotions. There have been moments of doubt, moments of loss, moments where I questioned what direction I was heading in. There were times when I felt stuck, and times when I felt like I was moving forward without really knowing where the road would lead.
Yet here I am.
A new month. A new chapter. A new job. New opportunities.
Listening to July feels like standing at the edge of something unfamiliar while carrying the lessons of everything that came before. It's reflective without being depressing, hopeful without being overly optimistic. It acknowledges that life can be messy, uncertain, and complicated, but it keeps moving forward anyway.
Maybe that's why this song has been on repeat for me lately.
