If you fell in love with aespa because of the aggressive, head-banging energy of Black Mamba or the theatrical, dark-synth power of Drama, their Japanese release KISS N TELL might give you mild whiplash. Don't get me wrong—it is an incredibly catchy, bright house-pop track perfect for a summer playlist. But it feels shockingly safe for a group that practically built its brand on being futuristic and intimidating.

Visually and sonically, the song heavily leans into a nostalgic Y2K aesthetic. It raises an interesting cultural question: aren't we way past this trend? In the high-fashion world, the early-2000s revival was done and dusted nearly half a decade ago. Yet, the music industry keeps dragging it back to the runway. While KISS N TELL is a fun detour, it ultimately makes me crave the heavy, hard-hitting production that makes aespa truly unique.
