Let’s talk about Cardi B’s new single “Outside”, shall we?

It’s wild to realize that it’s been seven years since her debut album, Invasion of Privacy — which, by the way, is still one of the most impactful debut rap albums in recent memory. Since then, Cardi has blessed us with hits, headlines, and high heels. And now she’s gearing up for her long-awaited sophomore album, Am I The Drama? dropping this September.

Before Outside, we’ve already had some Am I The Drama? appetizer tracks like “WAP” featuring Megan Thee Stallion and “Up”, both of which we now know are album cuts. So when Outside dropped, I was very curious — and let me tell you, it’s giving classic Cardi with a fresh spin.

I’ve always loved Cardi’s solo material — she knows how to own a track. Her collaborations over the years have been hit or miss (I said what I said!), but when it’s just her? She eats. And Outside feels like her returning to her core energy: bold, unfiltered, and confident AF.

Truth be told, I’m also a big fan of her 2024 releases “Like What” and “Enough (Miami)” — and Outside fits right in with that vibe. While the production on this track isn’t quite as hard-hitting as those two, it still lands with punch and purpose. And her delivery? She’s giving something new, but it still screams Cardi — and I love that.

This one’s already earned a spot in my shower anthem rotation, right next to Lady Gaga’s Mayhem (don’t judge me — the acoustics are better in there, okay?).

As we wait for Am I The Drama?, I’m genuinely excited to see what Cardi has in store. One thing I know for sure? She always serves when it comes to visuals, and with Megan also out here slaying every single MV she drops, you know we’re in for a visual feast come album release season.
