This week, we’re listening to Miley Cyrus — and not just any Miley Cyrus. We’re talking about Bangerz-era Miley Cyrus. That era. The one that gave us bop after bop like “We Can’t Stop,” “Adore You,” and the ever-so-controversial “Wrecking Ball.”

That era didn’t just give us hits — it gave us moments. The VMA stunts alone? Whew. Say what you want about it now, but at the time, everyone was talking about Miley. She wasn’t just shedding her Disney image; she was burning it down, rebuilding herself in real time, and daring people to keep up.

But beyond the chaos, the headlines, and the pearl-clutching, Bangerz as an album actually had a lot going for it. One thing I truly loved about this record was how stacked it was with features — and one feature in particular was, pun intended, a banger.

“SMS (Bangerz)” featuring the one and only Miss Britney Spears.

Let’s be real — for someone who was still relatively fresh in her post-Disney era, collaborating with THE Britney Spears was huge. Britney wasn’t just a pop star; she was the blueprint. That collab alone felt like a symbolic passing of the pop torch.

The song itself is very straightforward, ridiculously catchy, and yes — undeniably dated if you listen to it now. But honestly? That’s part of the charm. Dated songs have this magical ability to teleport you straight back to the moment you first heard them.

When “SMS (Bangerz)” popped up on my Spotify playlist recently, I literally stopped what I was doing and thought, oh wow. Suddenly I remembered myself almost 15 years ago, dancing, jumping, and completely losing it to this song like life was carefree and responsibilities didn’t exist yet.

And that’s what this era represents to me — messy, loud, imperfect, but unforgettable. Love it or hate it, Bangerz-era Miley was fearless, disruptive, and impossible to ignore.

So yeah, this week belongs to Bangerz Miley.

Do you have any memories from this particular Miley Cyrus era?
