Tuesday Tea: RPDR S17 Is Upon Us!

RuPaul’s Drag Race is back with Season 17, and I couldn’t be more thrilled! It’s wild to think that I only started watching this iconic show during Season 9. Lady Gaga being the guest judge for the premiere episode was what pulled me in. As a huge fan of hers, I couldn’t resist. Since then, I’ve been hooked—re-watching old seasons, catching up on All Stars, and staying loyal to each new season.

Over the years, Drag Race has transformed into one of the fastest-growing reality show franchises. From North America to Asia, Europe to Africa, and Australia to South America, there’s now a version of the show on nearly every continent. It’s a testament to the global power of drag and how it unites people through art, humor, and heart.

For Season 17, I love what MTV has done with the promo material. Season 15’s promo is still one of the best in the franchise—vibrant, bold, and unforgettable. In contrast, Season 16’s promo felt underwhelming and didn’t quite capture the excitement and energy we’ve come to expect. Thankfully, the Season 17 promo is a return to form, with visuals and themes that truly hype up the new queens and make the season feel fresh and exciting.

What also makes this season so unique is the sheer number of queens with connections to the Drag Race family. It’s like a family business on the main stage! Here are some of the standout connections:

Arrietty, drag daughter of Irene Dubois

Crystal Envy, drag sister of Jasmine Kennedie

Jewels Sparkles, drag granddaughter of Trinity The Tuck

Kori King, drag sister of Plane Jane

Lana Ja'Rae, drag daughter of Luxx Noir London

Lucky Starzzz, former drag daughter of Nina Bo’nina Brown

Sam Star, drag daughter of Trinity The Tuck

These connections bring an added layer of excitement and intrigue to the competition. Will these queens live up to their family legacies? Or will they carve out entirely new paths for themselves? Either way, I’m here for the drama and the incredible talent they’ll showcase.

Speaking of first impressions, my initial Top 4 picks based on MTQ and the promo looks are Jewels Sparkles, Lexi Love, Lana Ja'Rae, and Sam Star. They each exude charisma, uniqueness, nerve, and talent—so I can’t wait to see what they bring to the challenges and runway.

And let’s talk about the premiere episode! Katy Perry is set to be the guest judge, which is giving me major excitement. I’m sure she’ll bring her fun, vibrant energy to the panel, and I’m eager to see how the queens interact with her.

Now, over to you! Who are your Top 4 picks, and are you as excited as I am for the new season? Let’s chat in the comments and get ready to sashay into another fabulous season of RuPaul’s Drag Race. Let the best drag queen… win! 💄👠✨
