I was kind of bored browsing through Netflix and I can't seem to find a decent movie to watch. So I went sideways and go into the dark side and browse for some 90's movies. I stumbled upon this gem right here. Honestly, I think this is what inspired the Mean Girls. These girls are like the OG mean girls and if you watched this movie, it's practically the same movie but with a different sub genre.
Jawbreaker is a movie about a high school cliques consist of four popular girls, Courtney, Julie, Marcie and Liz. So on Liz's 17th Birthday, the girls decided to 'kidnap' Liz as a prank. But Courtney decided to stuffs a jawbreaker into Liz's mouth as a gag before she is placed in the trunk of a car. She eventually died due to suffocation and the girls decided to to fabricate a story that Liz died at the hands of a rapist.
Their planned was heard by Fern, a nerd who admired Liz who was sent to Liz's home by the school to hand Liz her homework. Fern attempts to flee the house, but the girls catch her and Courtney buys her silence by accepting her into the clique, telling her to take Liz's place, despite Julie's protests. Courtney and Marcie give Fern a makeover, transforming her from plain and awkward to elegant and beautiful. The transformation is so complete, Courtney introduces Fern as the beautiful exchange student "Vylette".
So as usually, drama happened and "Vylette" finally come to her senses and decided to help Julie to exposed Courtney. Horrified that her scheme has been exposed, Courtney races for the exit as the rest of the furious students pelt her with corsages. Julie snaps a picture of the devastated Courtney to immortalize the occasion.
This movie is all too familiar right? Yeah as I said, I guess this is what inspired the Mean Girls. It's a fun and light movie to watch, very straightforward and predictable. Nevertheless, I love watching evil bitches being put in their place. You can of course watch it if you don't know what to watch on Netflix.
P/S: Oh Rebecca Gayheart and Rose McGowan!
