Movie Review: Subservience

"Subservience" tries to tackle the intersection of AI technology and human dependency but ends up feeling like a misguided attempt to mimic better films in the genre. With a premise that echoes MEGAN but veers into an awkward adult fantasy, the movie offers little of value.

Storyline Overview

The plot is a lackluster attempt to combine family drama with a sexualized AI robot. While the concept had potential, the execution is uninspired and devoid of any fresh twists. The forced drama and predictable storyline fail to engage or entertain, making the movie feel more like a dragged-out TV film than a theatrical release.

Character Highlights

The father, tasked with raising a baby boy and a toddler girl, is intended to evoke sympathy, but his character lacks depth and development. Alice, the AI robot, had the potential to be an intriguing and complex character but instead became a shallow embodiment of forced conflict and fantasy. The young children, while adorable, contribute little to the story, leaving the emotional core of the family dynamic underwhelming.

Villain Analysis

Alice, the supposed antagonist, comes across as a shallow caricature of what could have been an intriguing AI. The conflict she creates feels forced and out of place, especially in the context of the family drama.

Emotional & Thematic Depth

The movie attempts to explore themes of control, trust, and the ethical dilemmas of AI but stumbles in its delivery. Instead of thought-provoking commentary, it feels like a poorly executed imitation of far superior films.

Final Thoughts

"Subservience" is a frustratingly pointless movie. It neither contributes anything new to the AI genre nor manages to entertain. While the cinematography is commendable, it’s not enough to save this disaster.

Rating: 2/10

Recommendation: Skip this one unless you’re desperate for something to watch.
