Lights, camera, action! Welcome back to another thrilling installment of our movie review series. This week, we’re diving into a dynamic double feature that promises to entertain and excite: the high-octane disaster flick 'Twisters' and the much-anticipated, irreverent adventure of 'Deadpool & Wolverine.' From tornadoes tearing up the screen to the Merc with a Mouth cracking wise, these films are set to take us on a wild ride. So grab your popcorn and settle in as we explore the whirlwind thrills and laugh-out-loud moments of these two cinematic delights.
When I heard that "Twisters," a standalone sequel to the 1996 classic "Twister," was coming out, I was immediately intrigued. Disaster movies are a guilty pleasure of mine, second only to my love for horror films. So, with high expectations, I headed to the IMAX theater to see if "Twisters" could live up to its predecessor.
Feel-Good Disaster Movie
"Twisters" is exactly what you want from a feel-good disaster movie. It’s not overly complicated or heavy with intricate plots. Instead, it offers straightforward entertainment that’s easy to watch and enjoy. From the moment the first tornado hits, you're in for a ride that doesn’t let up until the very end.
A Worthy Sequel
One of my biggest concerns was whether "Twisters" could match the original "Twister." I'm happy to report that it not only lives up to the original but, in some ways, surpasses it. The movie brings more conflict between the characters, adding an extra layer of drama that enhances the story. The tension and relationships between the characters feel more fleshed out, making their struggles against the relentless tornadoes even more engaging.
Non-Stop Action
The action in "Twisters" is relentless. There’s no pause between each tornado occurrence, which kept me on the edge of my seat the entire time. The movie lives up to its title, delivering twisters throughout the entire runtime. The pacing is excellent, ensuring that there’s never a dull moment.
IMAX Experience
Watching "Twisters" in IMAX was a spectacle. The visuals were stunning, and the sound design made you feel like you were right in the middle of the storm. I considered trying the 4DX cinema for an even more immersive experience, but after my recent visit to Universal Studios Singapore, I wasn’t sure if my vertigo could handle it.
Final Verdict
"Twisters" is a fantastic addition to the disaster movie genre and a worthy successor to the original. It’s thrilling, entertaining, and delivers on its promise of non-stop tornado action. If you're a fan of disaster movies or just looking for a good time at the cinema, "Twisters" is definitely worth a watch. I’m giving it an 8/10.

To be honest, I was never the biggest fan of Deadpool movies. The first and second installments didn’t quite hit the mark for me. The whole concept of breaking the fourth wall felt like it disrupted the movie’s flow, turning it into a self-commentary rather than a fantasy escape. But then came "Deadpool and Wolverine," and boy, did it change my mind!
Nostalgic Cameos
This movie not only worked with the fourth wall-breaking gimmick but elevated it to new heights. It's safe to say this is by far the best Multiverse movie ever! Without giving too much away, this film managed to make me tear up with its nostalgic cameos. Seeing characters I grew up watching on the big screen brought back so many memories. The simplicity of the storyline was a refreshing change, steering clear of the convoluted complexities that often come with multiverse narratives. Instead, it showcased what a multiverse could be in the simplest and most heartfelt way.
Homage To The Pre-MCU Superheroes
"Deadpool and Wolverine" felt like an homage to the pre-MCU superhero era, giving beloved characters the closure they deserved. It was a fitting tribute to those classic heroes who paved the way for today’s superhero blockbusters. The soundtrack, much like the cameos, was a nostalgic trip, especially for anyone who grew up in the '90s. The movie might mark the last time we see Hugh Jackman donning the Wolverine claws, as the MCU seems poised to start fresh with the X-Men and other Marvel characters.
For the 90's Babies
The ending credits were another tear-jerker. Watching the montage with Green Day’s "Good Riddance" playing in the background was like a love letter to '90s babies. The MCU really outdid itself, saying, “This is for you.”
All in all, "Deadpool and Wolverine" was an absolute joy to watch. I’m confident it will shatter my personal record for most theater viewings. Currently, the first Kingsmen movie holds that title with five viewings, but I have a feeling this film will surpass it.
I’m giving "Deadpool and Wolverine" a solid 10/10 for the pure joy it brought me. Heck, I’m off to watch it again later!
