Movie Review: 404 Run Run

404 Run Run is a horror-comedy that leans more heavily toward the horror side, with gory and unsettling scenes that might not be for the faint-hearted. Despite the intensity, it’s an enjoyable film that balances its scares with comedic relief. However, the movie's heavy reliance on loud sounds for jump scares is a notable drawback.

Storyline Overview

The plot follows a house-flipper who scams buyers into purchasing poorly renovated homes. Their latest venture—an abandoned hotel—takes a dark turn, and chaos unfolds. The pacing is consistent, and the seamless blend of horror and comedy ensures you’re entertained throughout, whether you’re laughing or screaming.

Character Highlights

The entire cast shines, including the supporting characters, who each have their moments to stand out. This collective effort elevates the film and adds depth to the story.

Villain Analysis

While the movie doesn’t explicitly center on a single villain, the abandoned hotel and the secrets within it act as an ominous force. The horrors encountered are tied to the characters’ pasts, creating a layered and terrifying experience.

Emotional & Thematic Depth

Amid the laughs and scares, the film carries a powerful message: sometimes, loving someone means letting them go. Clinging to someone for comfort can be selfish, especially when it causes them unhappiness or misery. This poignant theme adds an emotional layer to the story.

Final Thoughts

404 Run Run is a must-watch for fans of Thai horror-comedies. While some of the humor may cater specifically to Thai audiences, the physical comedy and expressions make it universally entertaining. Watching it in a lively setting, like a cinema, enhances the experience—especially if you have someone like the laughing aunty from my screening!
